1. Know Your Exam
The first thing you need to do to crack CAT is to know the exam pattern, syllabus, and difficulty so you can plan and prepare accordingly.
|Verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC)||34||102||60 Minutes|
|Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)||32||96||60 Minutes|

Try finding out previous year question papers so, you can get the idea of what kind of questions are asked in the CAT exam and of what difficulty.
*We don’t guarantee that the CAT exam will be held in the same pattern, this pattern is just based on last year’s question papers.
2. Analyze your level and start with simple topics
After knowing the exam pattern you have to analyze your level so that you would know how much effort you need to put in. Many students start with difficult topics which idiotic because hard topics break their confidence and will power.
Some easy topics to start with are percentage, ratio, time distance and speed.
3. Legit Study Material
Don’t waste your time on finding lots of books and other study material whilst focus on some main and legit publications that have good material and are written by experts.
- ‘How to prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for CAT’ by Arun Sharma,

Also, start reading newspapers and magazines for daily updates on what’s going on around. Remember that you have to read English newspapers so that it could help you to get better in English.
*English is very important if you are aspiring for an MBA.

Days are gone when we used to study by ourselves in a 4×4 room, today’s era is an internet era so make sure you make good use of it.

- Use E-learning portals like unacademy and byju’s
- watch interviews of CAT toppers to learn something from them.
5. Prepare section-wise
After you are familiar with the exam pattern and have your study material, make a time-table for section-wise preparation. Now it depends on you how much time you will give to a particular section but remember that you have to work on every section daily.
6. Study Topics That Relate to each other
This strategy helped me to minimize my preparation time by an hour a day and to Score 90+ percentile in CAT.
let me give you an example- suppose you are studying “Principles of management” now then your next topic should be “how to handle human resource”. both these topics are interrelated and will take less time.
7. Set time-bound goals
CAT isn’t something that you can easily crack so you must plan well and set deadlines to cover the huge amount of syllabus in limited time. Setting deadlines is important to keep a check on the study schedule, cover each section with equal importance, practice time management, and remain self-motivated above all.
As a matter of fact, CAT is a test of time management as much as it tests knowledge. It is important to practice to build both accuracy and speed to perform well on exam day.
8. Give Mocks as much as you can
Mock tests will help you to track your progress so, give at least 2 mocks in a week because the time is less but the syllabus is vast and hard as well.
9. Do Group studies
To successfully crack CAT 2019, a good company of people ensures that you are on the right track. Discuss your problems, strategies, topics, etc. and exchange study material with your study group members. Not all group members would necessarily be preparing by themselves. If some of them are taking coaching, that can be advantageous for you. Clarify your queries from them and request for suggestions based on expert inputs. You could also borrow the same mock test, practice tests together and analyze your competition with your group members. This will give a huge boost to your performance.
10. BE DEAD SERIOUS
I will be honest with you, you have to be dead serious with your CAT preparations because cracking CAT isn’t easy at all, CAT is one of the most difficult national level exams in India. And you know what, approximately 2 lakh students appear for CAT every year and more than 40% of them fail with negative marks, so be serious if you don’t want to waste your money as well as time.
I hope these strategies will help you to crack CAT 2019:) by the way, you can ask questions in the comment box if you have any.
